Job Description – Part Time School Manager (Maternity Cover) 


Edinburgh Drawing School  
Start Date Monday 7th November 2022 (or earlier)  
Location: New Town, Edinburgh  
Reports to: School Director  
Position: Freelance (Self-employed), Fixed Term Maternity Cover for School Manager (14 months approx. including training period commencing November '22) 
Days: Monday to Friday 9 or 10am - 3pm but very flexible and the occasional weekend day 
Training period will be part-time from November until mid-December, approximately 25 - 30 hours per week, to be discussed 
Salary: approx £18k for part time at 30 hours (£20,500 pro rata full time) (hourly rate, invoiced monthly)

Outline of The Role
The Edinburgh Drawing School is a well-respected, independent art school in the heart of the New Town, Edinburgh, presenting drawing and painting classes for adults and children ages 8yrs up. Your job is to support all aspects of the day to day running of the school, managing part time assistants (setting their hours etc to support your rota) as well as the programme planning each term.   
The role is front facing, dealing with both students, models and tutors. Your role will ensure the smooth running of the business day-to-day, and you will be a confident and articulate ambassador for the Edinburgh Drawing School.  
 
Main Duties and Responsibilities
This role will require some level of manual handling, for example moving tables and chairs to assist with class set-ups, as well as general daily light cleaning duties and maintenance.  
This will be split between two studio locations, Great King Street and Beaverhall Studios.  
Website management and upkeep (using Wix). 
Managing online bookings and booking calendar each term including the booking and co-ordination of tutors and models. Some social media engagement using the dedicated accounts for the School on both Facebook and Instagram, with confident and interesting posts which can increase traffic to the website and bookings for the courses.  
Ensure a smooth transition/ hand-over to the returning Manager after maternity leave. 

 

General 

• Keep School office and public spaces clean, tidy and safe at all times.  

• Flexible working, hours to be confirmed  

• Undertake such other duties as may be reasonably required to ensure the smooth operation of the school.

The role is supported by a part-time office assistant. 

 
 

Our Ideal Candidate

We are looking for someone who is practically minded, who is adaptable and can confidently ‘think on their feet’ in terms of problem solving within an urgent time frame.  

Good time keeping and organisation skills are both imperative in this role. 

Some knowledge or interest in the arts is desirable. 

Candidate should be available to start no later than 7th November.
