Service Description

In this class, children will paint and draw to produce some vibrant expressive work of animals, and will draw inspiration from the animal kingdom... With the use of all media, you will explore drawing and painting animals from life and from photographs. Week 1: An introduction to animal drawing. Playing with lines, tone, and colour by sketching of moving animals. If you have any specific images you want to work from please bring them in. This exercise is intentionally placed as lesson one to experience loose free mark making. Week 2: Look at Clare's wonderful work and choose to make a watercolour painting inspired by a choice of prints and cards. Week 3: Mark making. In pencil, looking at various master works such as Rembrandt's Elephant, and Sir Edwin Landseer's sketches of dogs. Week 4: Animals in Indian Ink Week 5: Birds in Watercolour Week 6: Have a go painting with feathers in colourful ink, as Clare does full time professionally! Week 7: Drawing your own pet, if you have one please bring in pictures or you can use some images you send in to EDS for printing, multi media provided Week8: Choose your favourite medium to work with this week and we will be painting fish from life from the fishmongers. Clare is a professional working artist living in the borders, and studied at Edinburgh College of Art as well as Leith school of Art. Since, she has designed the front cover for the 25th anniversary of the Scone Game Fair as well as winning the competition for the design of the front cover for the CLA Game Fair 2014. Shortlisted in 2014 for Wildlife Artist of the Year, Clare has worked closely with, and donated paintings to a number of charities including Tusk Trust, Born Free Foundation and GWCT. Some of Clare’s more recent collaborations have included creating colourful, bespoke magnums for Pol Roger Champagne. From producing a vibrant and colourful rainbow trout to be used on the product packaging for Chalkstream Foods to the creation of a stunning silk scarf, there are no bounds to where her beautiful designs can be utilised. We give Clare a warm welcome to The Edinburgh Drawing School! Materials EDS provides: high quality paper, pencils, erasers, pastels, charcoal etc. If you would like to work in oil or acrylic please bring in your own set.

Cancellation Policy

We will provide a 50% refund if you give written advance notice up to 30 days before the course start date. 0% refund 30 days before a course starts. Please note there is an administration fee of £5 payable in respect of such refunds to cover payment processing fees. You will need to inform a member of administration staff in writing by emailing EDS at info@edinburghdrawingschool.co.uk. Additionally, if you withdraw for any reason after the course has started you will not be entitled to a refund. We are a small business and we depend on every booking to ensure that classes can go ahead. If a tutor has to withdraw from teaching the scheduled course for any reason (medical/personal/professional) before the start of a scheduled course, during a scheduled course, if the course is 8 weeks long or scheduled as x3 terms of 8 weeks long each, The Edinburgh Drawing School will find a replacement tutor for the course designed by that tutor for The Edinburgh Drawing School. The course content will be the same as the originally booked course. A student will not be entitled to a refund should the school have no option but to find a replacement tutor. If a tutor leaves and starts work elsewhere, and a student prefers to take classes with them personally at the tutor's new workplace, that is at the discretion of the student and no refund is entitled to them or will be given. If a student is unable to attend a class due to medical/personal/professional reasons, then EDS must be informed immediately so that the tutor can be notified. If you are missing a class because you suspect that you have developed Covid-19, please let us know immediately so that we can alert fellow student and tutors. Non-attendance of classes/workshops does not automatically mean a refund, however EDS will assess the circumstance
