Service Description

Over the weeks we will have some still life set ups for inspiration and look at expressive techniques using line and wash, and building depth with tone and colour washes. There will be shorter exercises in washes and exploring the effects of warm and cool colours. We will look at examples of other artists work that use some of these techniques. Discover different ways of finding colour in the shadows working with watercolour. Suitable for beginners and those with some previous experience. Suggested materials to bring along: 300gsm watercolour paper Paper thickness varies but go for a heavier weight if you’re doing several washes (300g/140lbs +) A3 size is good. You only need a few brushes for a whole variety of uses. such as sable hair small round brush series 4, 5 or 6; a medium size angled flat and a 2” or 3” Chinese hake brush for washes. Synthetic brushes are also good. 2B, 3B Pencils and a rubber Watercolour paints - Chinese/Zinc White, Cadmium yellow, Lemon Yellow, Yellow Ochre, Raw Sienna, Cadmium red, Alizarin crimson, Permanent rose, Cobalt violet, Raw umber, Burnt umber, Burnt Sienna, Viridian green, Cerulean blue, Ultramarine blue, Indigo, Prussian blue, Payne’s grey and Black. White gouache. The Edinburgh Drawing School can provide pans of watercolour if you cannot bring your own colours.

Cancellation Policy

We will provide a 50% refund if you give written advance notice up to 30 days before the course start date. 0% refund 30 days before a course starts. Please note there is an administration fee of £5 payable in respect of such refunds to cover payment processing fees. You will need to inform a member of administration staff in writing by emailing EDS at info@edinburghdrawingschool.co.uk. Additionally, if you withdraw for any reason after the course has started you will not be entitled to a refund. We are a small business and we depend on every booking to ensure that classes can go ahead. If a student is unable to attend a class due to illness, then EDS must be informed immediately so that the tutor can be notified. If you are missing a class because you suspect that you have developed Covid-19, please let us know immediately so that we can alert fellow student and tutors. Non-attendance of classes/workshops does not automatically mean a refund, however EDS will assess the circumstance
